Outdoor Gym Equipment
A dream came true for West Norwood footie fans when England striker Tony Cottee joined them to open a new outdoor gym in the park.
The Sky Sports pundit, who played for West Ham and Everton and was capped seven times for England, officially unveiled the gym in Salters Hill on behalf of the Friends of Norwood Park.
The gym, which includes exercise equipment, basketball and table tennis, was completed in February following the group’s successful bid for £44,000 from the charity initiative Community Spaces by The Friends of Norwood Park.
Mr Cottee was a big hit with young and old alike signing autographs for his fans during the opening today.
The bid was supported by Lambeth Council and the Park Leisure won the tender to fit out the gym, on the Ridge opposite the water play area.
Cllr Sally Prentice, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet member for Culture, said: “The Friends of Norwood Park do a brilliant job and I’d like to congratulate them for all their hard work in making this new gym possible. It’s a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local people and the council work together.”
