Dog owners are the "eyes and ears" of the community

13/03/11

The main aim of a Dog Watch scheme is to create a partnership between the local community, the police and the local authority. The scheme is a great way of building community relations and working together with the police to reduce the fear of crime and to improve the quality of life in your area. As a dog walker you will be out and about at all times of the day and can contribute to addressing quality of life issues in Stevenage. You are the “eyes and ears” of the community. ...more

Puppywatch

09/03/11

The idea behind Puppywatch is for younger children. It is aimed to help them learn about personal safety such as crossing the road, importance of picking up litter, stranger danger, not touching strange dogs and the importance of informing their parents or teacher/s of issues. This is accompanied with a short worksheet which our co-ordinator and a PCSO will complete with the children in the classrooms or assemblies etc. ...more

Dog Watch

The dog community is being asked to help in making Norwood Park the safest possible environment.
Dog Watch, is a new scheme, based on the idea of Neighbourhood Watch.
Dog walkers are the 'eyes' and 'ears' of the community and are out walking pets at all times so why not put the two together.
We are looking for volunteers to join Dog Watch. The successful launch was held on Saturday March 3.
The scheme involves no real commitment on behalf of the dog owner all you have to do is do what you already do and be vigilant when you are out walking your best friend.
If you see something untoward simply note it and pass the information to the police.
We are also aiming to promote responsible dog ownership after a series of nasty dog attacks in the park.
We also hope the scheme will led to a reduction in dog fouling the park which is an offence which lead to a fine for the owner.
We aren't asking you to be a vigilante just vigilant.
If you see any kind of anti social behaviour: vandalism, plants being stolen from the Country Walk, trees being attacked, dog fouling, strange behaviour, or litter being dropped then either report it directly to the council or to the dogwatch coordinator.
This is also about making the park and surrounding streets a safer and nicer place to live so if you see litter please pick it up or better still train your dog to pick it up.
Dogs sometimes get a bad rap so help us change that view with the Norwood Dog Watch.
You don't have to confront anyone about their bad behaviour just note dates, times, descriptions, number plates and or locations of incidents and pass the information on to the police or council for action.
Dog Watch is also a great opportunity to meet other dog owners and swap stories about your dog’s funny habits.
We hope to organise regular events, get togethers and walks as well as gaining access to experts to help with member’s education or training requests.
So why not make a difference and join the Norwood Park Dog Watch.
