Many, we hope, have visited the little Cafe in Norwood Park. It's in the blue building on Salters Hill near the play ground.
It is run by local family Athraa and Nabil Karim from Iraq on behalf of the Friends of Norwood Park.
So as to give you the best service they both have Food Hygiene Certificates and have worked really hard to be awarded a Health & Safety Certificate for the kitchen area and for the way they store their food stuffs and for the way they keep the food preparation area clean.
In March 2013, the cafe was refurbished. It was moved from the small kiosk in to the larger part of the main building and a new kitchen was installed. The Friends would like to thank Awards for All, the Big Lottery, our funder, for making this happen.
Given the improved kitchen facilities and appliances the cafe now aims to give park users a better choice of menu. The Karims would be pleased if you could make your choices clear so that we can provide the best menu for you.
The Friends are keen to invite other volunteering helpers so if you are interested please give your name to cafe managers Athraa or Nabil and they can arrange an interview.
While, some previous experience of food preparation would be ideal, full training in the requirements of food hygiene etc will be given. This opportunity is open to any one over 18 years of age.
The Karims welcome any suggestions as to the menu they offer and can accommodate most special dietary requirements. Any comments on their pricing structure are welcome too. The Cafe is there for you to enjoy.
They are conscious that they need to be open at the best times for you so any suggestions on those are welcome too.
They aim to be open from 11am to 7pm in the Summer (May to September) but in the Winter, when the days are shorter, they will close a lot earlier.
They will try to fit in with School term times off season too. When the weather is bad you
probably won't see them up there at all but perhaps you won't be either!
